Run-iquette

As I've said before, I'm pretty sure that many people who run along side me think I am quite the odd ball. Although, no one ever runs with me because, let's face it, I run slower than a person with no legs. Quite seriously.

As I stretch, I watch videos on my iPod and laugh away at YouTube cat sensations and Ellen DeGeneres . Isn't there a study that says laughter is the best exercise? Or is that "laughter is the best medicine"? Either way, I enjoy stretching way too much thanks to The Soup as well.  Not to mention that while I run, I sometimes dance. Yes, I runce. I'll pop my arms and bob my head if I'm not on a particularly hard run. To an outsider, I should probably be in a psyche ward. What? Who cares? I'm just minding my own business runcing.

But what I always try to do while I run is have run-iquette. Now this, anyone can do.

People, really. Just be mindful of others around you. I know that you are at BYU-I and are most likely single hence the reason why you are at the track running (to get a great bod to catch a man, of course) but really, pay attention!

Tonight as I ran, there were two girls gleefully kicking a soccer ball back and forth to each other as they casually walk/jogged around the track. I'm sorry, I am really trying to see your side of the story, really. Maybe you are trying to improve your kicking-back-and-forth-ness skills for a big game but get your head out of your butt and think.

Maybe, just maybe, there are people running there who are, oh I don't know, training for a half-marathon and couldn't afford to break their ankle or injure their knee from tripping on your dumb ball. Did you think about that? My guess is probably not but you sure did look cool. Super A game-like. *thumbs up*

But I am a forgiving person so I looked past it. Whatever. Benefit of the doubt.

So I continued my workout. I was running not far behind a girl who was going at a bit faster pace then me so I knew I was pretty safe running behind her. Apparently I'm a bad judgement of character because she stopped, mid run, in the middle of the track and started doing LUNGES. Okay, people, just in case you didn't know, I'll tell you now. You don't stop in the middle of the road to work on your engine; you pull over.

It didn't stop there either. People were cutting me off, taking up half of the lanes, walking in the innermost lane, and overall not watching were they were going. For a school that likes to follow rules, you sure pick 'em, don't you?

So please, folks. Just be considerate of everyone running especially when there are 30 people on a track that only has 4 lanes and 5 1/2 laps =1 mile. It gets tight, uncomfortable, and awkward if every man is for himself.

Look before you pass. If you are slow, stay in the outer lanes. Don't swerve, just stay in your lane. You only need 1 lane so don't take up two. If you're going to stop, pull over. Give people some room before you cut them off. It's really simple. So from one runner to another, let's just all try to be a little more considerate of others. Now, lets go share a creatine shake for old times sake.
